Balboa Park San Diego Engagement Photography- Jessica and Scott

Jessica and Scott’s engagement session was photographed at Balboa Park in San Diego, California.  The engagement session was a little different as balboa park was super busy on a weekend.  Their wedding is set for August 21, 2010 in San Clemente, California and we are excited to photograph their special day. Jessica and Scott met at a Halloween party through their friends Fran and Torg where she was dressed as cotton candy and he was dressed as a monk. They have been together for over three years and love each other more everyday. Jessica is a professional dancer and Scott is an all-around guy who is very nice and great at snow boarding.  Scott and I worked together for about five years back at Shiny Entertainment on games like Enter the Matrix and Path of Ne0. Below are some of our favorite photos from their engagement session.

Very big thanks  to everyone who voted in our Vote For Your Favorite Photo of 2009 competition… we had an amazing response and it was really hard to keep up with all the voting.   Almost 300 different people voted from all over the world.  Vendors, clients, family and friends.   It was nice to see so many facebook requests for voting…

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, IRVINE Indian Engagement Photography - Neeta and Ari

Neeta and Ari’s engagement session was held on February 13, 2010 at University of California, Irvine. They were such a fun couple to work with and we cannot wait to shoot their Indian Wedding on June 5, 2010 at the Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Riverside, California. Neeta works as a high school math teacher in Santa Ana and likes to watch Reality TV and listen to pop music. Ari works as a full time programmer for Balboa Insurance and is attending school at night for his MBA. He also likes snowboarding and playing the drums. We were going to photograph the engagement session in the mountains, but changed it at the last minute because of traffic and weather. Below are some of our favorite photos from their engagement session.

Perfect Pictures

When I was planning my wedding, a lot of people said to me, “Why are you spending so much time/money/energy on one day of your life?”  And, I said to them, “Well, the pictures last forever.”

And, you know what?  I was right! Wedding photographs are handed down from generation to generation, and so long after the dress, flowers, shoes, and cake is gone…your wedding photographs will still be around.  I sat down with Ahmed, from AA Creation, to talk about some tips to get the most out of your wedding photographs.

Shawna : Hi Ahmed. Thanks for your time today.
Ahmed : Nice to see you, anytime.


Shawna : So, when does a bride actually need to start buckling down and booking her wedding photographer?

Ahmed: Well, that depends on her wedding date!  Peak season for weddings is from May to September and November through January. If you are planning your wedding during these peak seasons, brides should be booking at least 6 months, if not a year in advance. However, if you are having a Friday or Sunday wedding, your chance for booking your favorite photographer will skyrocket as Saturdays are the most popular day. South Asian families love to have their celebrations on long three day weekends, so if that is your plan you need to book as soon as possible.

Shawna : Oh wow, so 3 day weekend-ers listen up : after you book your venue, before you get your invites, get your photographer! What other things are vital for great pictures?

Ahmed : I cannot stress lighting enough. You can have the most beautiful ceremony, and most extravagant reception… but if the lighting is poor, your pictures will suffer.

Shawna : So, what tips do you recommend to make sure you have good lighting?

Ahmed : Well, if possible, take advantage of beautiful weather and have some of the wedding outside! Two hours before sunset is ideal, as that time of day eliminates all those unpleasant dark shadows or blinding light that is characteristic of noon-time weddings. Two hours before sunset is the perfect environment for golden, natural, and powerful images that will never truly compare to indoor lit pictures.

Ahemd : The Photo on the left was taken in golden light, two hours before sunset. On the right the afternoon light (around 12pm) is harsher, whiter, and takes the blue out of the sky in order to expose for faces.

Shawna : I think that an outdoor, snowy ceremony would be lovely, but the guests might not! So, what should my winter time brides do?

Vote For Your Favorite Photo of 2009

We had such a great 2009 and worked with some amazing couples shooting their weddings and engagement sessions. There were so many wonderful photos from the year that we decided we would hold a contest for our clients and their family and friends to participate in. Everyone is invited to cast their vote for the top photo of 2009 by simply leaving your name and comment below (one vote per person please). Share the link with family and friends and encourage them to vote. The top ten images will be numbered, so please leave the number of your favorite image in your comment.

As a bonus, we will be sending a free framed 16×24 large print of the winning photo to the bride or couple after the contest has ended. If your photo does not happen to be included in the top ten images below, we apologize in advance. There were so many amazing photos that we could not possibly feature them all, so we chose the best images that show variety and creativity.

OK so lets go for 4th place first. 4th is #8 would have been a potential number one if the girls head was a little more upright or possibly even facing away a little. 3rd is #4 again could have been a possible 1st place if only the cleavage on show in the left of the picture didn't grab your attention so much. 2nd is #3 beautiful picture but i think i like it mainly because the bride is just so beautiful and it's her that appeals more than the photographic skill on show. 1st is #2 and even though it may appear biased cause Ruby is like a sister I would say this is such an original pose and the colours are so vibrant and vivid that it gets my top vote. So Ahmed you know Ruby in pic #2 should totally get 1st prize, or should I say your photograph of Ruby should seal top spot. Farukh

Ambreen and Omar’s wedding was held on July 19, 2009 at the Marriott of Anaheim. Sometimes when Ahmed and Mehreen get busy during the peak wedding season, they will send other team photographers (and out source the full wedding photography)  to other photographers. He trusts all his team photographers to produce amazing and beautiful images for AAcreation Photography clients because not only do they know AA’s photographic style, but there is also a relationship built on confidence between them that allows for extra shooters. Because Ahmed & Mehreen were busy the weekend of Ambreen and Omar’s Pakistani wedding, Rupesh Kotecha and Richard Agajanian were the photographers for this event. Rupesh and Richard did a phenomenal job at their wedding and produced aesthetically creative images that mirror our style. Ambreen and Omar were a great couple to work with at both their Mehndi and Pakistani wedding. The bride loves watching movies and traveling, while the groom is a surgeon in residency in Ohio and love electronics and music. Why You Should Spend Big Money On A Good Wedding Photographer - thesaricladbride

There are many parts that go into creating the perfect wedding such as the venue location, the dress, the catering services and decorations that cost a lot of money, but one part that should not be forgotten is spending big money on an impeccable wedding photographer. While it is partly true that anyone can pick up a digital camera and shoot away because of how accessible photography has become in this day and age, it is still not the same as hiring an actual photographer who has the experience, passion and eye to create the lasting moments that a client deserves. Below are five points we at AA Creation Photography believe why it is important to spend the big money on hiring a good wedding photographer versus hiring a relatively cheap photographer or a family member that owns a digital camera.

1. The low rate photographer versus the high rate photographer- A good photographer will have the eye or vision for creating images that a person just owning a digital camera or  a low rate photographer will not have. The low rate photographer will likely only own one camera and lens while standing in the same position for the entire wedding ceremony and reception and essentially doing the bare minimum. The high rate photographer although pricey will give you lasting memories through the photographs created. A high rate photographer compared to the low rate photographer will have several cameras and lenses such as a fisheye or wide-angle lens to give a whole new perspective. The high rate photographer will also offer new angles from high and low and ultimately be well worth the money spent.

2. Established Trust- Being able to trust in the photographer hired for your wedding is very important. There have been too many instances where a bride has hired a low rate photographer and they have either been disappointed in the images or even worse the photographer failed to show up. There are also the feared questions of “Will their personality work with my event?”, “Will there be an album and if so, will it even look well put together and presentable?” and “Will they nickel and dime me?”. These are important questions to consider when selecting a photographer for your wedding/event. Typically when spending the money for a high rate photographer there will be no issue about trust because these photographers have insurance and know the proper protocol when being hired as your photographer.
